November 2007 Dear ###USER_name###,6th Street's David Lear directs his 1st Shakespeare at The Loading ZoneDavid Lear’s production of Macbeth is a five-character adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic, featuring four witches (Hecate being the forth witch), who shape-shift into over 20 characters. It takes place in an immediate and intimate environment. Up close and personal. The theatre space has a real sense of “soul,” which works well for the theme of the tragic story; temptation and loss of soul; the sacrifice of goodness for personal gain; and the universal struggle between good and evil within a person. The four witches serve as the central metaphor of the play appearing in full view of the audience almost the whole time—giddy, salacious and diabolical. This is the principal distinguishing characteristic of the production. All the sounds of the play come out of the witches as they manipulate the stage space. They live in an environment if Manzanita trees and come a go from this grove. “I wanted to have Macbeth and Macduff in a scene where they are two sides of the same person—Macduff the good part and Macbeth the evil part. That scene did not make it into the play but the idea is still an undercurrent in the production. Macduff pulls Macbeth into a confrontation with his inner self,” says Lear. Macbeth previews on Halloween due to an obvious the connection between the holiday and the supernatural aspects of the play---the spirits of the night. “It’s marvelous to work with a cast who relish the telling of a Shakespearean story—its language and themes. It has been a collaborative process from beginning to end.” For further information and reservations call: 707-765-4843 6th Street's annual 'holiday show' is The Lion, the Witch, and the WardrobeGreat holiday fun for all ages - The young performers (3rd - 8th graders) from the School of Drama will perform the first annual 'holiday show' - The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in the G K Hardt theatre at the 6th Street Playhouse.
