Directed by Bronwen Shears
Set in 1905, this moving story follows Esther, a talented, lonely, unmarried African American seamstress who creates intimate apparel for women of New York society and prostitutes. Esther's desire for love, affection and a better life weaves her into the complicated pattern of early 20th century society where she finds the common thread that unites and divides. Intimate Apparel received the 2004 New York Drama Critics Circle and the Outer Critics Circle Awards.
"The play offers poignant commentary on an era when the cut and the color of one's dress - and of course, skin - determined whom one could and could not marry, sleep with, even talk to in public." -- Variety
CAST: The cast features Naomi Sample as Esther, Marjorie Crump-Shears as Mrs. Dickson, Erin Hoffman as Mrs. Van Buren, Jeff Cote as Mr. Marks, Rebecca Frank as Mayme and Cameron Stuckey as George Armstrong.
