The year is 1960. Conrad Birdie, a hip-thrusting rock and roll superstar akin to Elvis Presley, is about to be inducted into the Army. His agents concoct a contest in which Conrad will bid an all American girl goodbye with a kiss, live on the Ed Sullivan Show. The winner of the contest is Kim MacAfee from Sweet Apple, Ohio. However, things don't go quite as planned. Kim's father becomes dumbfounded, Kim's boyfriend becomes disastrously jealous and Conrad himself becomes tired of show business and tries to teach the kids how to party!
