FALL 2010 - Youth/Teen Class Schedule



6 week courses begin the week of September 7. Registration begins July 19.

• Home School Music Class



10:00 a.m. - noon  Tuesday/Thursday (Hardt Lobby)  Instructor: Riccardi/Riccardi   $400.00  
If you want to sing out, sing out! In this class, songs that are fun to learn and sing allow students to celebrate the joy of using their voices while learning to sing in a healthy way. Warmups and exercises allow students to experiment and discover their voices, while simple rounds, harmonies and musical games encourage the pleasure of singing with others. Each session will present a new set of simple, popular and folk songs with a range of melody, rhythm, beauty and silliness. After twelve weeks, parents, caregivers, family and friends are invited into the classroom where students have the opportunity to perform what they've learned and share their amazing voices.
Prerequisites: No experience necessary.  Special Info: You must attend the first class. Bring a binder or something to collect handouts.

Drama allows preschoolers to express themselves through movement and storytelling. It can be an enchanting way for preschoolers to interact in a group and learn about individual roles. Language, math, art and physical education will be taught when preschoolers learn through dramatic play. To teach drama requires planning and creativity but the results are worth the efforts.  This class is for ages 3-6 years old.

• Vocal Performance I



4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.   Tuesday/Thursday (Hardt Lobby)    Instructor: Riccardi  $200.00 
This is the perfect introduction for those who love to sing but have little or no technical training. Vocal Performance I will introduce methods that will improve overall sound, make singing feel more natural and enhance vocal range.  Vocal Performance I will work to extend breath control and develop tone all while training to sing solo and with an ensemble. Prerequisites: No experience necessary.  Special Info: You must attend the first class. Bring a binder or something to collect handouts.

• Scene & Monologue Study



4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.   Tuesday  (Rehearsal Hall)  Instructor:  Kerns     $175.00 
An exploration into the techniques of acting, beginning with exercises that flex the imagination and heighten observation; the course will then move towards work on rhythm, an actor’s instincts, focus, concentration, and character with an ongoing emphasis in scene study and monologue development.  Each student will leave with two monologues and one scene prepared for showcase.

• Sewing Basics



4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.     Wednesday  (Costume Shop)  Instructor: Fitzgerald       $175.00 
Have you always wanted to learn the art of sewing?  Do you need to know how to sew a seam? How about learning how to sew a dart? Whenever you are learning how to sew, it seems that the whole world knows more than you do and even knowing what to search for is a major challenge. Learning how to sew is simple and our amazing 6th Street Costume Team will guide you one step at a time through all the basic foundations of the craft.

• Spanish Speaking Acting Class

• Teen Improv!



4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.    Thursday  (Rehearsal Hall)  Instructor: Page       $175.00 
This class is exclusively for our teenage community.  Come learn the art of improvisation from the ensemble members of the 6th Street Playhouse Improv Troupe. Practice your acting, storytelling and comedy skills by playing improv games on stage. Get ready to act in plays where you have no clue what your part is and have to make it up as you go. If that idea makes you nervous and excited, then this week is for you! Invite your family and friends to watch you perform on the last day.

• Shakespeare



7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.   Thursday  (Rehearsal Hall)  Instructor: Kerns     $175.00 
Explore seven plays about lovers and rebels, young and old.  We will watch young men and women find their identities or forge new ones while they struggle to balance obligations to family, society, and self, and we will see older men and women struggle with the results of choices they have made.  We will explore Shakespeare’s dramatic art as well as his deep understanding of our humanity.  Shakespeare is a class that everyone in the county will be talking about.

• Public Speaking



10:00 a.m. - noon        Saturday   (Rehearsal Hall)       Instructor: Kerns     $175.00 
The art of Public Speaking empowers people to achieve their full potential and realize their dreams. Through our class, students will improve their communication and leadership skills, and find the courage to speak to inform, persuade, or mark an occasion.  Public Speaking instills in its students the core values of integrity, dedication to excellence, service, and respect for the individual.  Learn to gather your thoughts, write a speech, and deliver it with strength, pride, and confidence.

• Playwriting



2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.        Saturday   (Rehearsal Hall)       Instructor: Patterson     $175.00 
Ever wanted to write a play?  Do you have a great idea for the stage kicking around in your head?  Then playwriting class is for you.  Our playwriting course will introduce basic techniques of structure and dialogue, writing exercises and dramatic events, and discussion and critique.  Students initiate development of a one-act play or the first act of a three-act play

• College Audition Prep



4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.      Saturday   (Rehearsal Hall)     Instructor: Kerns/Dean     $250.00 
Are you auditioning for Collegiate Levels Theatre Programs this season?  Are you looking for an advisor with ten years of experience and a proven track record of getting students into the top art schools in the nation, including:  Boston Conservatory, Carnegie Mellon, and The Julliard School?  Matthew Kerns and Lennie Dean are the team you need to get you into these top competitive programs.  This co-taught course will guide high school seniors through the audition process, help them select the schools that are “right fit” for their avenue of study, and prepare them completely for their auditions, including:  Monologue prep, interview role-play, and essay editing.  If you want to get a yes, come and study from the best.
