Amanda Morando is thrilled to be working for 6th Street Playhouse as Program Director for the summer youth program. Though she is not new to 6th Street Playhouse, she is new to the Education program! She has, however, been working with children since graduation from UC Santa Barbara with a bachelor of music in vocal performance in 2010. She loves working with children and sharing her love of theater. She believes that children's theater helps increase confidence, builds teamwork skills, and produce well-rounded individuals whether these children pursue theater as adults or not.
During the school year, she teaches Music & Movement to the K - 2nd graders & Drama to the 3rd - 5th graders at Dixie Elementary School in San Rafael. She works for Rhythms Performing Arts in Novato teaching Acting & Broadway classes there. Two years ago she helped expand their performing arts program to produce children's musicals and has co-directed/music directed 4 productions thus far! She has worked with toddlers teaching music classes through JAMaROO Kids, been choral youth program director for SingersMarin, and worked as musical director for both adult and youth musical theater for Marin OnStage, YES! Theater for kids, and Curtain Theater.
She performs herself here at 6th Street Playhouse most recently as Petra in A Little Night Music & Magenta in Rocky Horror Picture Show. Some of her other favorites include Rona in 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Marin OnStage), Heidi in Title of Show (Marin OnStage), and Kate Monster in Avenue Q (NTC). She has received SFBATCC and Theatre Bay Area nominations as Music Director & Lead Female in a Musical.
