Craig A. Miller, Artistic Director/Education Director

Originally from Peoria, Illinois, Mr. Miller received his Bachelor of Arts degree in the Professional Theatre Training Program at the nationally-acclaimed Illinois State University School of Theatre. In 1996, Mr. Miller founded and served as the Artistic and Managing Director of The East Window Theatre Company in the Rogers Park neighborhood on the north side of Chicago. Under Mr. Miller's direction and dedication to the works of new, emerging playwrights, East Window soon became one of the 'Best Bets' of the Chicago theatre community. Mr. Miller left the company in 2000 to pursue a free-lance career and his Master of Fine Arts degree in directing at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, which he completed in May of 2004. Mr. Miller has directed over eighty professional productions at regional theatres across the United States. Some favorite directing credits include: Death of a Salesman, Victor Victoria, A Flea in Her Ear, Singin' in the Rain, Assassins, Othello, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (Trustus Theatre, SC), the Southeast Regional Premiere of Polaroid Stories, Danny, King of the Basement (The Virginia Stage Company), The Taming of the Shrew (Unity Theatre), Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Henry V, The Exhibition, and a world-premiere adaptation of Pierre Marivaux's The Triumph of Love (The Shakespeare Theatre of NJ). For his direction of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Mr. Miller's work received national acclaim in the syndicated American Theatre Magazine, 2003 May/June issue, which also received the 'Best Theatre Production of 2003' award from The State Newspaper, Columbia, South Carolina. His 2005 production of The Triumph of Love received critically-acclaimed accolades from The Princeton Packet, Variety, and The New York Times.
Before coming to 6th Street Playhouse, Mr. Miller served as the Artistic Director of The Texas Repertory Theatre Co. in Houston TX from 2003-2010. While in that position Craig directed acclaimed productions of Our Town, Of Mice and Men, Forever Plaid, The Fantasticks, Proof, The Glass Menagerie, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Always…Patsy Cline, Lend Me A Tenor, Ilyria (Regional Premiere), You Can't Take it with You, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, A Christmas Story, Steel Magnolias, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Little Shop of Horrors, I Hate Hamlet, A Flea in Her Ear, Moon Over Buffalo, Sleuth, and Plaid Tidings. He produced the company's productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream, A Christmas Story (2006 & 2007), Just Heaven, Dracula, WIT, The Mystery of Irma Vep, and The Odd Couple. Also an actor, Craig's recent roles include The Compleat Works of Wllm Shakspr {Abridged}, Felix Ungar in The Odd Couple, and the Telephone Repairman in Barefoot in the Park. Craig is an accomplished sound designer and theatre educator, having served as an Adjunct Professor of Theatre Arts for the Lone Star College District, specializing in acting, monologue & audition preparation, scene study, stage combat, and stage direction. From 2003-2005 Craig worked at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey as a director and associate casting director for their Main Stage productions. Mr. Miller is thrilled to make his permanent home here in Santa Rosa as the artistic leader of The 6th Street Playhouse.
